Home-Crafted Chess Board Returns to Store after Popularity of "The Queen's Gambit"
A few years ago, a chess set crafted by local wood-working artist Nathan Ralph sat on the shelves of our store unclaimed. In fact, the board was overlooked for about three years! However, after the popularity of "The Queen's Gambit" this past year, we decided to bring it back to find it a home.
After its release this past October, "The Queen's Gambit" became Netflix's No. 1 show in 63 countries and the most-watched 'limited' scripted series' ever according to Netflix. And just this month, there has been news of the story being adapted for theater stages.
"Chess isn't always competitive. Chess can also be beautiful. It was the board I noticed first. It's an entire world of just 64 squares. I feel safe in it. I can control it; I can dominate it. And it's predictable, so if I get hurt, I only have myself to blame." — Beth Harmon
We have had a few requests for chess sets over the last few months and decided to bring this wooden board back.
Ralph has also made our store's dice boxes.
The beautiful chess set, which functions both as its own storage case and playing surface, is selling for just $100.
Come check it out at the store any time, while its still here!
